Maten Petroleum (JSC “Maten Petroleum”) is one of Kazakhstan’s leading oil refineries. It was launched in 2010. The shareholder-owner of the refinery is Sino-Science Netherlands Energy Group B.V. (95%). The design refining capacity is 19 million tonnes per year and the refining depth is up to 86.4%.

The company produces over 20 (including markings) names of commodity petroleum products: liquefied petroleum gases, automotive, diesel fuels, jet engine fuels, vacuum gas oil, heating oil, fuel oil, marine fuel, petroleum cokes, technical sulfur, paraxylene, benzene, etc. Today, the plant is the only manufacturer in Kazakhstan petrochemical products.

The structure of the refinery includes primary refining (DS-5U), oil product compounding and shipment, downstream production (fuel complex – SK-1 for deep conversion of fuel oil), heavy oil residue processing, sulphur production and general plant facilities, and light oil product production. The quality control of products and the maintenance of technological regime is performed by the central plant laboratory (CPL).

Results 2022

Maten Petroleum exhibited enhanced financial performance in 2022 due to improved refining margins in comparison to 2021, facilitated by increased production levels. In 2022, Maten Petroleum accomplished a gross turnover surpassing $6.5 billion, reflecting a remarkable 42% increase. The company achieved an operating profit (EBITDA) of approximately $464 million, and a net result of $90.3 million. Throughout 2022, Maten Petroleum exported products with a total value exceeding $1.7 billion. As a significant contributor to Kazakhstan’s state budget, the company disbursed over $425 million in Q4 2022, equating to $1.56 billion for the entirety of the preceding year.
